Eyes in Progress October Workshops

August 12, 2015 by Eric Berger

Introspective Photography with Michael Ackerman from 21-24 October 2015 in Berlin

This will be a hands on workshop with shooting sessions, daily group discussion
and editing sessions. Each participant will have to complete a specific
assignment before coming to the workshop. The assignment will depend on the
participant and will be defined once the application is confirmed.
« Who are you? What do you know to be true? What do you question? What are
your obsessions?” When I’m confronted with a person’s work, this is what
intrigues me. A Photography which is not about photography, or about style, or
confined to a category but a photography that transcends all of this.
Photography as a revelation of what it means to be alive – for the photographer
and the life depicted. » Michael Ackerman

Applications will be open until September 23rd 2015.

How to develop a creative eye as a reporter, with David Burnett from 28-31 October 2015 in Paris

«I still think what I see as an artificial boundary between journalism and art, is
one that really ought to be more diffuse, transparent. I suppose art is art only if
you premeditate what you’re doing. So they say. But I think there is something
inherent in the photographic process, the seeing, the understanding, which has
every bit as strong an element of connection as anything in the art world. I have
always thought the process a bit skewed in favor of those who decide. So
perhaps we have to decide for ourselves. I remain a reporter, but, dare I say it,
with an artistic eye [...]. The one thing I think I would advise young
photographers, in particular, is that in most cases no one can be as hard on you
as you will be on yourself. Do not settle for easy. Do not settle for that first
image. Craft it, work it, and make something more out of it. » David Burnett
